Nathan Bryan Whitfield (1799-1868) was the grandson of William Whitfield II and the son of Bryan Whitfield. He moved to Alabama while still a young man, became a successful cotton planter, and built a home in Demopolis that he promptly named Gaineswood. It is a beautiful mansion and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark open to the public. Here is a link to the website:

The OFFNC is an organization composed of descendants of men and women who settled in North Carolina prior to 1929. Membership is by invitation only, and you must be able to document your lineage through exacting genealogical standards. The organization meets twice yearly--once in the spring and again in the fall. Both William Whitfield I and William Whitfield II are officially recognized as first family ancestors. Thanks to our Society member, Ms. Beth Pridgen, for information on the OFFNC.
